RSA ClearTrust(R) Federated Identity Management Module offers organizations
new opportunities to streamline business processes, enhance user productivity
and improve security
SAN FRANCISCO, RSA(R) CONFERENCE 2004, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/--
RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS) today announced its participation in the
OASIS SAML (Security Assertions Markup Language) 1.1 Interoperability Lab at
the RSA(R) Conference 2004. The SAML 1.1 OASIS Standard, an XML framework for
exchanging authentication, attribute and authorization information, is a basis
for federated identity and security environments and is designed to enable
secure single sign-on to applications within organizations, as well as across
companies. The interoperability event features an 11-company demonstration of
the SAML-based architecture being deployed with the U.S. General Services
Administration's (GSA) E-Authentication initiative at booth # 235.
The OASIS SAML Interoperability Lab is sponsored by the GSA. It
illustrates interoperability across three separate scenarios, which simulate
interaction between a government or enterprise portal and sites from typical
content or service providers. The GSA E-Authentication Initiative is
committed to delivering open standards-based authentication solutions to U.S.
government agencies.
The demonstration will feature the RSA ClearTrust(R) Federated Identity
Management Module, which provides SAML functionality for generating and
consuming standards-based SAML assertions. Through the support of the SAML
1.1 specification, single sign-on functionality is extended across other
applications and platforms that support SAML, further enhancing the user
experience and productivity opportunities afforded by this technology. This
solution allows organizations to federate identities with partners to drive
new relationships and business models. The Federated Identity Management
Module can be deployed quickly and offers powerful, time-saving administrative
features for creating and managing e-business relationships across business
boundaries among SAML Asserting and Relying Parties. RSA Security's identity
federation solution can be integrated with third-party access management
products, including those that do not offer support for SAML 1.1, to enable
enterprises to take advantage of the important features in the current version
of the SAML OASIS Standard.
"The SAML 1.1 specification reflects strong work in establishing a
standard basis for federated identity," said Karl Best, vice president of
OASIS. "We're pleased that RSA Security is hosting this event and actively
participating in the interoperability lab. A public event of this caliber
helps end-user organizations to see the cost and productivity benefits
achieved by utilizing products that interoperate by supporting these
standards."
RSA Security has long been a leader in the federated identity market. RSA
Security is an original founder of the Liberty Alliance, has a representative
co-chairing the SAML work on the OASIS Security Services Technical Committee,
and has led the development of many standards specifications. RSA Security
has also donated intellectual property for SAML and Liberty Alliance
implementations. Customers have deployed the RSA ClearTrust Federated
Identity Management Module and are interoperating with business partners
today. Enterprises are now able to freely interoperate with their business
partners and other enterprises using a standards-based approach to user
identity and access management offering them investment protection for their
future needs.
"RSA Security strongly believes in supporting standards efforts, like
SAML, that allow our customers to authenticate and exchange user identities
across web applications and services, providing users the benefits of single
sign-on," said Joe Uniejewski, CTO and senior vice president of corporate
development at RSA Security. "RSA Security has participated in the
development of this specification since inception, contributing intellectual
property and technical expertise. This public interoperability event further
demonstrates the benefits, productivity advantages and use of federated
identities."
