NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- BUYPASS Corporation, a major third-
party POS processor and leading debit transaction acquirer, today unveiled a
new Windows NT-based electronic payment system designed for multi-lane retail
and grocery stores. The new system, called PaymeNT2000, made its debut at the
MARKETECHNICS'99 trade show, which opened today in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The new system, developed by BUYPASS' software development unit Manta
Systems(R), is integrated systems software designed to work with the newest
POS systems, which are increasingly Windows NT-based. By following the NT
standard, PaymeNT2000 is both easy to install and positioned for the future.
PaymeNT2000 may be integrated directly into NCR's ScanMaster(R) and, soon,
BASS' BasspoiNT(R) systems, and may be run on the same or separate
controllers. For added flexibility, the PaymeNT2000 software is written in
Sun Microsystems' Java(TM) language, which provides the foundation for future
deployment on other Java-capable platforms. PaymeNT2000 provides robust
features and functionality, supporting a full range of electronic payment
options including debit, credit, electronic benefits transfer (EBT), and check
authorization. Other features include "store and forward" functionality,
allowing transactions to be authorized locally when an authorizer is
unavailable and forwarded automatically when the host becomes available, as
well as a broad range of settlement, transaction and systems performance
reports. PaymeNT2000 employs the familiar graphical interfaces of Netscape's
Communicator(R) web browser, making it very easy to use and navigate.
"The release of PaymeNT2000 reflects our continuing commitment to
providing software products that meet our clients' needs for flexibility,
performance and easy installation," said Scott Plumblee, SVP and top executive
for the supermarket and major retail industries at BUYPASS. "The PaymeNT2000,
along with our other software products, is part of BUYPASS' complete payment
solution for the supermarket industry. The bottom line for our clients is,
the software installs smoothly and works flawlessly. The NT features are a
bonus."
Separately, BUYPASS also announced that it processed a total of
1.27 billion transactions in 1998, a 27% increase over 1997. This included
330 million debit transactions and 59.7 million EBT transactions, an increase
of 54% and 151% over 1997, respectively. BUYPASS drives over 220,000 POS
terminals at approximately 85,000 merchant locations.
BUYPASS Corporation, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, provides
processing for 50 of the top 200 grocery store chains in the United States.
One out of every ten debit POS transactions performed in the United States is
processed by BUYPASS. BUYPASS also has connections to 35 EBT programs in
34 states and provides gateway access to over 50 credit, debit and EBT
gateways. BUYPASS is a subsidiary of Electronic Payment Services, Inc. (EPS),
