Thermo Scientific brand offers powerful new analytical capabilities to
create integrated workflows
CHICAGO, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- At PITTCON 2007, Thermo
Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: TMO), the world leader in serving science,
unveiled an expanded breadth of innovative technologies for new workflow
solutions offered under its Thermo Scientific brand. PITTCON, held this
year at McCormick Place in Chicago, from February 26 to March 2, is the
largest North American conference and exposition for laboratory science and
instrumentation.
"Recognizing the increasing challenges our customers face in their
laboratories every day, we have created an unmatched portfolio of Thermo
Scientific technologies, products and services to help them improve both
the quality and speed of their work," said Marc N. Casper, executive vice
president of Thermo Fisher Scientific. "From sample preparation and
analysis to data interpretation, we can deliver world-renowned technology
specific to the individual needs of our customers, so they can move science
forward at a faster pace than ever before."
At PITTCON, visitors will see a range of new solutions focused on life
sciences, drug discovery and environmental laboratory applications,
featuring high-end analytical instrumentation, equipment and software, as
well as an extensive new line of chemistry and consumable supplies.
Among the new technologies on display at PITTCON from Thermo Fisher
Scientific are:
Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography:
Thermo Scientific LTQ XL(TM) with Electron Transfer Dissociation (ETD):
Offered for the first time on a linear ion trap mass spectrometer, ETD is a
new large-peptide fragmentation technique that dramatically improves the
accuracy of protein identification and the ability to pinpoint and identify
important changes in the structure of proteins, such as phosphorylation.
The unique combination of ETD with the LTQ XL's large ion storage capacity
and ultrafast cycle times significantly advances ion fragmentation
technology, providing peptide structural information complementary to that
obtained by conventional dissociation methods in the same LC/MS(n)
experiment.
Thermo Scientific Accela(TM) High Speed Chromatography System: Uniquely
capable of accommodating both conventional high pressure liquid
chromatography (HPLC) and small particle/faster ultrahigh pressure liquid
chromatography (UHPLC), the Accela greatly improves the speed and
sensitivity of analysis for customers working in drug discovery, QA/QC, and
food and beverage production, as well as in environmental and academic
laboratories. Accela is ready for use as a standalone analytical HPLC/UHPLC
or seamlessly integrates with Thermo Fisher Scientific's world-class mass
spectrometers for complete LC/MS(n) solutions that accommodate a wide
variety of columns, including superb 1.9 (m)m particle Thermo Scientific
Hypersil columns. Users can also take advantage of new Thermo Scientific
TurboFlow(R) technology, which enables
users to directly inject biological samples, such as plasma, directly
into the Accela or any LC-MS/MS system for analysis, reducing
time-consuming sample preparation steps.
Thermo Scientific EQuan(TM) Environmental Quantitation System: Combined
with the highly regarded Thermo Scientific TSQ Quantum(TM) series mass
spectrometer, the new EQuan system provides accurate and reliable analysis
of pesticides, herbicides and antimicrobials in environmental and drinking
water samples. EQuan significantly reduces analysis time by allowing
samples to be directly injected and enriched immediately before LC-MS/MS
analysis. This solution achieves detection limits at parts-per-trillion
levels, allowing users to comply with environmental and water regulations
under U.S., Japanese and European directives.
Thermo Scientific DSQ(TM) II Single Quadrupole GC/MS System: From
research to routine environmental applications, this new GC/MS system
offers increased sensitivity, extended linear dynamic range and advanced
fast scanning for optimal performance and productivity. The DSQ II is part
of the Thermo Scientific Environmental Productivity Solutions product line,
which also includes the iCAP 6000 Series, the most sensitive and compact
ICP emission spectrometer available and now with additional configuration
options featured at PITTCON.
Elemental Spectroscopy:
Thermo Scientific K-Alpha(TM) X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy System
and the Thermo Scientific NORAN(TM) System SIX X-ray Microanalyzer for
energy dispersive spectroscopy on electron microscopes: These two new
systems increase the level of workflow automation in surface analysis and
X-ray microanalysis, allowing users of all skill levels to gather more
detailed information during materials studies. The K-Alpha and NORAN System
SIX enable faster analysis times and produce richer data for materials
science applications, including semiconductors, metals, biomedical
surfaces, nano- materials and geology.
Thermo Scientific NITON XLt 898He and NITON XLt 797X X-ray Fluorescence
(XRF) Analyzers: The new NITON XLt 898He alloy analyzer is the first
nondestructive portable instrument able to measure light elements in metal
alloys. It provides fast-grade identification and laboratory-quality
chemical analysis of a wide range of metal alloys, including aluminum and
titanium, stainless steels, nickel and super-alloys -- many of which are
used extensively in aviation, aerospace and other mission-critical
applications. The new NITON XLt 797X analyzer measures sample areas 20
times smaller than any other portable XRF instrument, enabling users to
quickly and accurately test individual electronic components and other
small samples to comply with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and
other environmental regulations.
Molecular Spectroscopy:
Thermo Scientific Evolution(TM) 60 UV-Visible Spectrophotometer:
Designed for regulated laboratories, life science, QA/QC, and general
research and teaching laboratories, the new Evolution 60 meets Pharmacopeia
requirements and offers optional software enabling 21 CFR Part 11
compliance. It features remote fiberoptic probes, a wide range of software
and other accessories to further augment the breadth of Thermo Scientific's
UV-Visible spectrometry offerings.
Informatics:
Thermo Scientific Darwin LIMS(TM) 2.0: For pharmaceutical
manufacturing, R&D and QA/QC applications, new Darwin 2.0 software provides
customers with environmental monitoring and other important features "out
of the box," lowering the total cost of ownership and significantly
reducing deployment risk. Darwin 2.0 addresses standard requirements of
pharmaceutical companies, such as dissolution testing, stability
management, product and batch management, and system interfacing.
Additionally, the new Thermo Scientific
Nautilus LIMS(TM) 8.0 offers enhanced features, including a new user
interface, a cut-and-paste workflow operation and plate handling using
Microsoft(R).NET technology.
Sample Preparation:
Thermo Scientific Sorvall Legend(TM) T and RT Plus Centrifuge Series:
The Sorvall Legend T and RT Plus Centrifuge Series is a fully integrated,
high- throughput system for both clinical and research applications. With
the addition of four new high-performance fixed-angle carbon fiber rotors
and new high-capacity adapters, the Sorvall Legend T and RT Plus Centrifuge
Series offers researchers extremely high processing speeds and 3-liter
capacity in a benchtop centrifuge.
