(NYSE: LMT) is proud to have two employees recognized as Asian American
Engineers of the Year by the Chinese Institute of Engineers/USA at their
annual award event on Feb. 25, 2006. Emmanuel Zulueta, Sr. Vice President,
Corporate Shared Services and Dr. Eliot Fang, Manager, Computational Materials
Science and Engineering Department, Sandia National Laboratories, were two of
16 honorees this year. Lockheed Martin manages Sandia National Laboratory for
the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.
As Senior Vice President of Corporate Shared Services for Lockheed Martin,
Zulueta is responsible for the strategic and tactical leadership of a diverse
organization of more than 1,000 employees providing a wide range of services
including payroll and payroll accounting, administration of group insurance
benefits, employee savings and pension plans, acquisition and negotiation of
corporate-wide procurement agreements, and stewardship of the corporation's
environment, safety and health performance. He has rapidly progressed through
the ranks of the corporation beginning his career in engineering and
transitioning to management by consistently delivering increased efficiencies
in production operations, reducing cycle times and eliminating cost. His
efforts have been cited in well known publications and have also been
recognized by the U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Research as among the best
procurement processes in government and industry.
Fang is currently leading cutting-edge research into materials properties
and performance prediction at Sandia National Laboratory. His achievements
and those of his team have advanced understandings of materials behaviors
across various length scales, from the arrangement of atoms at the atomic
scale to engineering performance at the continuum scale. After earning a
degree in mechanical engineering at the National Central University in Taiwan,
he was an officer and instructor in the Chinese Army Ordnance School during
his two-year government-required military service. He immigrated to the U.S.
in his early twenties and enrolled at the University of California in Santa
Barbara where his interest in materials science grew. Fang, now a naturalized
U.S. citizen, ultimately earned his PhD specializing in materials science,
engineering, solid mechanics and structure, and thermal sciences.
The Asian American Engineer of the Year Award is an annual national event
to honor the Asian American corporate leaders, scientists and engineers with
outstanding achievement in their fields and with contribution to the
communities.
