Vital Movement to Increase Safety of Online Dating Stretches Coast-to-Coast With Added Support of California

California Becomes Sixth State to Join TRUE's Nationwide Campaign to Protect
Online Daters; Assemblymember Fran Pavley (D - Agoura Hills) is Key Supporter

DALLAS, Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- TRUE(TM), the premier online relationship
service, today announced that California is the sixth state to commit to its
ground-breaking initiative to implement legislation to protect online daters
from interacting with sexual predators and convicted criminals. The campaign,
which started in Texas last year, has gained support in states across the
country, including Ohio, Virginia, Florida and Michigan.
Assemblymember Fran Pavley from California is the ninth lawmaker to
champion TRUE's campaign, joining an esteemed list of legislators, including
Senator John Carona and Representative Will Hartnett of Texas, Representatives
William J. Seitz and Scott Oelslager of Ohio, Delegates David Albo and Joe T.
May of Virginia, Representative Kevin C. Ambler of Florida, and Michigan
Senator Alan Cropsey.
California's proposed safety legislation requires that all online dating
services conduct felony background checks on their members or prominently
disclose that they do not run background searches. Currently, TRUE.com is the
only online relationship service that actively promotes the enhanced safety of
its users by performing extensive criminal screening on all of its
communicating members.
Further affirming the need for TRUE's safety campaign, a recent survey
conducted by Russell Research found that three out of four registered voters
(77 percent) would support state legislation that makes it a requirement for
online dating sites to pre-screen its members against criminal databases.
According to a syndicated research study conducted by KeyNote Systems, TRUE is
considered by 69% of respondents the "safe" online dating site.
"When we started this initiative last year, I knew that we'd quickly gain
support, but I had no idea it would spread like wildfire in such a short
period of time," said Herb Vest, CEO and founder of TRUE. "As an industry, we
owe it to our members to inform them of the potential hazards involving
criminal predation on online dating sites. The legislation being proposed in
California regarding criminal background checks enables just this, and we're
excited to be working with legislators across the country to make it a
reality."
