Silicon Image HDMI and Serial ATA Core IP Available in State-of-the-Art Process Technologies

Drives Integration Into Leading Manufacturers' SOCs

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Silicon Image, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SIMG), a leader in multi-gigabit semiconductor solutions for the
secure transmission and storage of rich digital media, today launched High-
Definition Multimedia Interface(TM) (HDMI(TM)) and Serial ATA (SATA) core
intellectual property (IP) for integration into the latest system-on-chip
(SoC) technologies. Silicon Image has ported its SATALink(TM) SATA core to
multiple 90nm and 0.13-micron foundry processes and is currently porting its
PanelLink(R) HDMI core to 0.13-micron foundry processes-allowing licensing
customers to integrate the most advanced SATA and HDMI functionality in their
market-leading SoC implementations.
"Not only is Silicon Image a leader in HDMI, DVI and SATA semiconductors
with more than 100 million chips shipped, but we are also a leading provider
of mixed-signal core IP," said Eric Almgren, Silicon Image vice president of
business development and IP licensing. "Our new HDMI and SATA IP offerings
demonstrate Silicon Image's commitment to providing customers with state-of-
the-art, silicon-proven technology. By integrating the latest core IP, our
customers are able to reduce overall system costs and accelerate the
introduction of new products to market, helping them remain competitive."
Licensing core IP from Silicon Image has many benefits. Silicon Image's
silicon-proven IP enables customers to achieve quicker time-to-market through
shorter design cycles, with lower implementation risk and faster compliance
testing. IP customers can also achieve lower costs by allocating fewer
engineering resources and reducing the number of passes through the fab, while
facilitating higher levels of chip integration. Silicon Image's expertise in
the development, manufacture and testing of SATA and HDMI mixed-signal
products provides IP customers with the confidence they need to develop
integrated semiconductor solutions on a timely basis.
Silicon Image developed the world's first DVI and HDMI chips and is the
leading provider of HDMI semiconductors. The company has shipped more than 80
million PanelLink HDMI and DVI ICs. Silicon Image is also the primary author
of the HDMI Compliance Test Specification and operates one of the world's two
HDMI Authorized Testing Centers. Silicon Image's PanelLink HDMI transmitter
and receiver IP cores are compliant with the HDMI 1.1 specification and are
ideal for DVD players and recorders, set-top boxes, A/V receivers, digital TVs
(plasma, LCD, DLP) and projectors.
Silicon Image is also the leading provider of discrete SATA host
controllers with more than six million shipped to date. Silicon Image offers
silicon-proven SATA host- and device-side core IP for integration into
customers' SoCs used in applications such as DVD recorders, set-top-boxes,
optical drives, TVs, storage servers and sophisticated RAID storage systems.
Silicon Image SATA IP cores support 1.5 and 3.0 Gb/s data transfer rates and
advanced SATA features such as hot plug, Native Command Queuing, port
multipliers with Frame Information Structure (FIS)-based switching and
extended cable lengths, as well as sophisticated RAID capabilities.
SATA host-side core IP includes the Transport, Link and PHY layers with
PCI, PCI-X or AMBA SoC internal interface options. Device-side SATA core IP
combines the Transport, Link and PHY layers with parallel ATA or AMBA SOC
internal interface options. The SATA host and device cores may be licensed as
a single block or as separate PHY and Link/Transport blocks. Silicon Image
also licenses PCI Express and Fibre Channel core IP as well as high-speed
SerDes (Serializer/Deserializer) PHY technology.
Silicon Image has licensed IP to ATI, MediaTek, Novatek, Samsung, Sunplus,
Trident and Weltrend, as well as many other leading SoC manufacturers
worldwide. Silicon Image's HDMI, SATA and DVI cores have been designed and
tested for production at TSMC, UMC and other foundries using various 0.18-
micron, 0.13-micron and 90nm process technologies. Upon request, Silicon
Image can port core IP to other foundries and process technologies to meet
licensees' production needs.
Silicon Image will be exhibiting at booth number 2443 during the Embedded
Systems Conference, which is being held March 8-10 at Moscone Center in San
Francisco. Information on Silicon Image's core licensing program can be found
on the Silicon Image website at http://www.siliconimage.com. To license Silicon
Image's market-leading IP, please contact s_cores@siliconimage.com
