Tchotchke Challenge Gets Many Participants at RSA Tradeshow
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Secure Computing
Corporation (Nasdaq: SCUR) today announced that the February kick-off of
its new "Tchotchke Challenge" program at the RSA Security Conference in San
Francisco was a tremendous success, resulting in the company's donation of
$10,000 to the UCSF Children's Hospital. Secure Computing has committed all
of its major 2007 tradeshows to the program, hoping to raise a substantial
amount for charity this year. The company invites all others planning a
tradeshow presence to participate.
The program, spearheaded by Secure Computing, is designed to gather the
heavily branded trinkets or "tchotchkes" given away at tradeshows and
donate them to children's charities that can use and enjoy them. Secure
Computing set up a "Share Barrel" inside their event booth and encouraged
tradeshow participants to donate their obtained tchotchkes to children
battling health issues. Secure Computing offered to make an additional cash
donation to the hospital if participants were able to fill the barrel to
capacity by the end of the event. By the final day of the show, the barrel
was overflowing and a check for $10,000 was cut.
"We are delighted to be participating with Secure Computing in this
philanthropic program," said Sterrin Bird, senior director of Development
for the UCSF Children's Hospital. "The children will love the backpacks,
balls, Rubik's Cube key chains. I sincerely hope that other companies see
the value in this effort and follow Secure Computing's lead."
"Our team debated about various tchotchke ideas, as we wanted to come
up with something innovative and fun, but went beyond geeks doing things to
impress other geeks," said Atri Chatterjee, senior vice president,
Worldwide Marketing, Secure Computing. "After considerable thought we
arrived at the same conclusion: Rather than spending money on giveaways
that invariably end up in a junk drawer, why not contribute this money to
an institution like UCSF Children's Hospital and encourage conference
attendees to donate the trinkets they collect to the hospital also. We were
pleasantly surprised by the sheer number of tchotchkes we collected from
the conference attendees at the RSA show."
