Mattel Donates Approximately Three Million Toys Globally
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Mar. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mattel, Inc.
(NYSE: MAT) announced today the global results of its 2005 philanthropy
programs, which included the redesign and relaunch of the Mattel Children's
Foundation on a global level, as well as a donation of three million toys by
Mattel with an approximate retail value of $16 million to children in need
around the world.

Committed to making a meaningful difference in the global community by
effectively serving children in need, the Mattel Children's Foundation and
Mattel's philanthropic endeavors focus on the following four priorities:
education and learning; health and well-being; girls' empowerment and bringing
joy to children. These priorities are addressed through the following
programs:
* Signature Partnerships: The Foundation selected to partner with Special
Olympics, Save the Children, the National Association of Children's Hospitals
and Related Institutions (NACHRI), the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation
(CAAF) and the Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA;
* Domestic Grantmaking: The Foundation granted more than $800,000 in
funding to 72 U.S.-based non-profit organizations primarily serving children
in need to support programs or general operating needs;
* Global Grantmaking: The Foundation awarded 34 global organizations
$25,000 each in countries where Mattel operates, including Latin American,
Asia, Europe and Eastern Europe; and
* Employee Programs: The Foundation also continued its employee programs,
including matching gifts and global scholarships.
Toy Donation Program
Corporately, Mattel donated more than three million toys to children in
need during 2005, many of which were distributed during the holiday season to
charitable organizations that directly serve children in need. The total
retail value of Mattel's toy donation efforts in 2005 is estimated at
approximately $16 million. The Mattel Toy Donation program reaches 150 nations
and more than 5,000 charitable organizations.
In addition to donating $350,000 in cash, Mattel donated hundreds of
thousands of toys to tsunami and Hurricane Katrina victims, valued at more
than $4 million retail. Through the NACHRI partnership, more than 40,000 toys
were sent to 145 children's hospitals and related institutions in 45 states
and Canada.
The Mattel Toy Donation program is currently accepting donation requests
as a part of its year-round giving program. Mattel cannot accept donation
requests after the September 30, 2006 deadline. More information about
