High Integration and Smart Battery Technology Make New Board Ideal for
Building Mobile Computers
EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, CHICAGO, March 2 /PRNewswire/ --
Xtech Embedded Computers today introduced the NxL-400 -- a completely new
concept for portable OEM designs. The NxL-400 will appeal to OEMs designing
hand-portable and ruggedized mobile computer systems.
"Until now, OEMs have had no choice but to build their own CPU boards in
order to get the features, performance and form factor they require for hand
portable or mobile applications," said Andre Courchesne, Design Specialist at
Xtech. "The NxL-400 presents a viable off-the-shelf, yet customizable
solution. With this board, Xtech provides a computer platform that helps the
customer dramatically reduce their time-to-market equation while keeping their
design costs competitive."
The NxL-400 is highly integrated. It supports ultra low power 1.9 Volt
Pentium MMX to 266 MHz or AMD K6 to 300 MHz, and up to 128 megabytes of SDRAM.
The NxL-400 has a built-in 32-bit SVGA graphics engine with resolutions to
1024x768x256 colors. In addition, it supports duplex audio with Sound Blaster
and WSS compatibility, 4 type I/II or 2 type III PCMCIA cards, a 2.5" hard
drive, floppy drive connector, four serial ports, one bi-directional parallel
port, a keyboard and mouse port, and a 200-pin R/A industry standard docking
station port.
To complement its extensive feature set, NxL-400 also provides on-board
intelligence and management capabilities to monitor system efficiency. As an
integral member of the 1.0 Smart Battery System Specification committee, Xtech
has helped define the battery management standards. As a result, the NxL-400
leverages this smart battery technology to help monitor the power use of the
system. The NxL-400 draws only 12 Watts of power at full operation and
utilizes smart charging technology to conserve power thereby enabling longer
usage times.
"We have demonstrated the NxL-400 with great success to companies that are
designing next generation hand-portable computers", said Joseph F. Marullo,
Xtech's Vice President of Sales for North America. "Customers like the
concept because the NxL-400 is fully integrated, has a small footprint, and is
totally rugged. Most importantly, it is designed to allow for easy
customizing. This is a significant benefit as nearly every portable design
has specific application requirements."
The NxL-400 is well suited for hand portable and mobile computer
applications designed for remote data acquisition, field engineering,
instrumentation testing and GPS communications. The NxL-400 is compliant with
PCI specification Rev 2.1 (electrical) and with the 1995 PC Card Standard.
Single unit price with a Pentium 233 MHz processor and 16 MB SDRAM installed
is $1295. Volume discounts apply. The NxL-400 is shipping now.
