NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- SM&A Corporation
(Nasdaq: WINS), a leading information technology solutions provider, announced
it has acquired the rights to sell Oceania's(R) Notewriter(TM) clinical
documentation software.
When integrated into SM&A's medical information management system,
Notewriter provides physicians with a "doctor-friendly" way to automate the
creation and retrieval of physician-generated medical records. Employing IT
to contain costs within the medical industry is an initiative of SM&A's Center
for Medical Information Technology within its Systems Solutions Group.
Historically, large parts of the medical community have lagged significantly
behind the rest of the economy in productivity improvements.
Tom Amrhein, President and General Manager of SM&A's Systems Solutions
Group stated, "We have already deployed our medical information management
system with Notewriter into the Air Force's Desert Care II electronic medical
record application. We can now aggressively market our medical software
solution as a complete package to the federal government, to private clinics
and to major medical informatics companies. Perhaps more exciting, we are
pursuing a per-seat licensing fee arrangement for private clinics throughout
North America."
"We offer clinicians the kind of systems and support they need to keep
pace with the tremendous demands for effective and timely documentation
required in today's healthcare environment," said Jerry Luby, Director of
SM&A's Center for Medical Information Technology. Luby also noted that only
5% to 10% of medical records today are automated in an industry that comprises
18% of the U.S. economy. By allowing the automation of between 60% to 80% of
physician-recorded patient records, SM&A's medical information management
system can contribute significantly to health care cost reduction while
improving patient care.
