DETROIT, March 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Axle & Manufacturing
(AAM), has developed a family of chain-driven and helical gear power transfer
units (PTU) for the crossover vehicle, all-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive
market.
Because engine compartment packaging is different for every vehicle model,
AAM has designed a variety of PTUs and incorporated them into several current
OEM vehicles for testing. AAM's design considerations take into account
engine configuration and displacement, transmission, steering gear, engine
cradle and exhaust and catalytic converter placement. The AAM family of PTUs
includes one axis, two axis helical gear, three axis helical gear, two axis
chain drive and integral center differential PTUs.
In developing its new family of PTUs, AAM has taken full advantage of its
high torque, smaller size PowerDense(TM) gear set technology and PowerLite(TM)
die cast aluminum housings used in its world-class front and rear axle
designs.
"Our engineers designed our PTUs to feature a minimized number of
components, design inherent precision, exceptional vehicle NVH
characteristics, and excellence in packaging," says Daniel V. Sagady P.E.,
vice president, Engineering & Product Development. "The addition of this new
product line to our portfolio reinforces our leadership in driveline systems
product and process technology."
AAM is a world leader in the manufacture, design, engineering and
validation of driveline systems and related components and modules, chassis
systems and forged products for trucks, sport utility vehicles and passenger
cars. In addition to its 14 locations in the United States (in Michigan, New
York and Ohio), AAM also has offices and facilities in Brazil, England,
Germany, Japan, Mexico and Scotland.
