Company Synopsis
SOLON, Ohio, March 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Advanced Lighting
Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADLT) is the only vertically integrated company in
the world focused on the design, manufacture and marketing of metal halide
lighting products. ADLT has introduced 80 percent of the metal halide lamp
types used in the U.S. The Company markets these components under its Venture
Lighting(R) brand.
Metal Halide is the newest and fastest growing lighting technology and
represents less than 7% of the world's market. Metal halide offers longer
life, dramatically improved light quality and increased energy efficiency over
other light sources. Metal halide is ideal for big box retailer outlets, gas
station canopies, airports, factories, retail car lots, parking garages,
sports facilities, billboards and other large scale applications.
ADLT developed the second-generation Uni-Form(R) Pulse Start (UPS) product
line which offers enhanced performance with better color uniformity, longer
lamp life, faster warm-up and restrike and up to 30 percent more energy
efficiency.
UPS metal halide lamp/ballast systems are the world's most energy
efficient, white light source. ADLT's UPS retrofit kits enables end users to
upgrade their older metal halide products conveniently and cost effectively
without having to replace the entire lighting system. Retrofit kits can
replace high-pressure sodium lamps as well.
The Company's wholly owned subsidiary, APL Engineered Materials, Inc.
(APL), produces ultra-pure materials known as salts for high intensity
discharge lamps, a category that includes metal halide. ADLT has a market
share of almost 100 percent in the U.S. and roughly 90 percent worldwide for
the key materials used to manufacture metal halide lighting products. Other
APL specialty materials include precision high-purity metal chips, unique
barium peroxide getters and custom tungsten electrodes and moly foil leads.
The Company's wholly owned subsidiary, Deposition Sciences, Inc. (DSI),
produces optical coatings for use in high-technology industries, including
telecom. DSI manufactures filters that are used to channel and direct the
flow of light through fiber optic cables. The benefits of using these
advanced technology filters include increased speed of transmission, increased
capacity of the cable and reduced light insertion losses. The Company
utilizes selected opportunities to apply its optical coating technology to
areas beyond telecom. Its thin film optical coating technology and equipment
produces high-volume, low-cost light management coatings for improved energy
efficient halogen lighting products. DSI's thin film coating technology is
also used for government and aerospace products such as IR radiometer filters,
laser protection filters and passive emissivity filters.
