COLUMBIA, S.C., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Edens & Avant, the nation's

the promotion of Maria Smith to Vice President - Controller. According to
Terry S. Brown, Chief Executive Officer, Smith will be responsible for all
consolidated financial reporting, property accounting, and joint venture
accounting.
Smith joined Edens & Avant as a property accountant in November, 1993,
with more than seven years experience with a South Carolina-based public
accounting firm. Following a promotion in 1995 to Property Accounting
Manager, Smith also assumed responsibilities for the Company's corporate
accounting arena. In 1997, she was appointed Director of Property Accounting.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Accounting, Smith is a Certified Public Accountant.
