NEW YORK, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- WABC-TV is the most-watched station in
the New York market, posting a 4.9 rating/11 share and delivering more
households Monday-Sunday 6am-2am, than any other station in the DMA. This is
according to Nielsen's February'04 overnight ratings data, which also shows
"Eyewitness News" finishing in first place in the Monday-Friday local news
races at 5am, 6am, 12pm and 6pm, while in a tie for the largest share at 5pm.
In addition to being the ratings leader, ABC/7 shows rating and share
growth in several key areas over last year. Highlights of the station's
powerful performance in the February'04 sweeps period include:
* Top-rated News at 6pm - "Eyewitness News" is the winner with a 7.2
rating/13 share, Monday-Friday. It holds a 13% ratings advantage over
nearest competitor "NewsChannel4 at 6", while also beating WCBS-TV's
newscast by 89% and more than quadrupling WNYW-TV's news ratings.
Bill Ritter, Liz Cho, Sam Champion and Scott Clark comprise the
Monday-Friday "Eyewitness News" team.
At 5pm, "Eyewitness News" concludes a down-to-the wire race by
delivering a 6.70 rating/14 share to the 6.77 rating/14 share posted
by WNBC-TV's "Live At Five, " a difference of only 5,000 TV
households. Diana Williams, newly announced co-anchor Sade Baderinwa,
and Sam Champion make up the 5pm "Eyewitness News" team.
* Top-rated Midday Newscast - "Eyewitness News At Noon" with Steve
Bartelstein and Sade Baderinwa wins the midday news race with a 5.5
rating/16 share, and is the only midday newscast to increase its
share, gaining one point year-to-year.
* Top-rated News at 5am and 6am - "Eyewitness News" with Lori Stokes,
Steve Bartelstein and Bill Evans takes first place in both the 5am and
6am news races, delivering a 2.1 rating/12 share and a 3.8 rating/15
share, respectively. Both editions of "Eyewitness News" show growth
over last February's ratings, with the 5am gaining 11% and the 6am
gaining 6%. WNBC-TV's "Today NY 1" at 5am and "Today NY 2" at 6am
both show year-to-year ratings declines, down 36% and 11%,
respectively.
* Strongest Audience Retention - "Eyewitness News" at 11pm is the only
newscast in the time period to build upon its primetime lead-in's
ratings. With Bill Ritter, Liz Cho, Sam Champion and Scott Clark,
