Funds will be used to build a new village in tsunami region
WASHINGTON, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- CEMEX, S.A. de C.V. (NYSE: CX)
announced today that it is granting $2.1 million to SOS Children's Villages
( http://www.SOS-USA.org ) to support the organization's long-term tsunami relief
efforts in South Asia, specifically Indonesia.
Through this donation, CEMEX will help finance the construction of a new
Children's Village. The first stage of the project is expected to begin in
2005.
In January 2005, SOS announced plans to raise $13 million to support
children and families affected by the tsunami. With several villages located
in the area, SOS was one of the first organizations on the scene, providing
care and relief to people immediately following the tsunami.
The long-term relief plan is expected to extend into early 2006 and will
help families rebuild their lives and provide homes and loving parents to
children orphaned by the disaster.
