AVL Acquires Digalog Corporation

PLYMOUTH, Mich., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- AVL North America has signed an
agreement to purchase the assets of Ventura, Calif.-based Digalog Corporation,
a manufacturer of powertrain test cell control and instrumentation systems.
Juergen Neugebauer, AVL North America president, made the announcement.
Digalog, An AVL Company, will continue to operate in Ventura, Calif.
Established in 1976 with the introduction of the first universal
dynamometer and engine controller, Digalog has a large, current installed base
of more than 2000 Control and 800 test bed automation systems (Cellmate(TM))
in North America. The company supplies hardware, test cell accessories,
software, applications, support, dynamometers and system design and
integration to the transportation industry.
"We are excited about the addition of Digalog's fine product line to our
offerings," said Neugebauer. "Digalog has an outstanding reputation with their
engine and powertrain customers, including their extensive expertise in heavy
duty and off-road applications. The addition of Digalog will further
strengthen AVL's position as a primary source for engine and powertrain test
systems.
"We look forward to offering the AVL instrumentation with the Digalog
range of products," Neugebauer continued. "We will emphasize the long-standing
quality and reliability of Digalog products, including Testmate(TM)
controllers and Cellmate automation systems. In addition, we will offer
Digalog customers growth paths towards highly advanced combustion analysis,
simulation and optimization techniques (Cameo), along with the integration of
dynamometers, emissions benches and test bed support systems. Our new
association will strengthen Digalog and further broaden our sales and service
network."
Robert McFarland, owner and founder of Digalog, will continue with the
company. "I'm looking forward to the expansion of instrumentation services our
association with AVL will bring," he said. "My new position will allow me to
focus on the activities I most enjoy -- product development, engineering and
sales support. I also expect that our traditional customer base will greatly
benefit from AVL's expertise in powertrain engineering."
AVL North America is a major provider of powertrain and vehicle test
instrumentation and systems. The Plymouth facility is also home to AVL
Powertrain Engineering, which provides a full range of services to the
powertrain industry, including design, analysis, research and development and
testing.
The company is a subsidiary of AVL, the world's largest privately owned
independent company for the development of powertrain systems and related
instrumentation and test systems. For more information about AVL and AVL North

AVL will exhibit in booth #2101 at the 2001 SAE World Congress, March 5-8,
