With Vis Concept 3.0, a Teamcenter Product, Users Can Present High-Resolution,
Three-Dimensional Designs to Create Products That More Closely Meet Customers'
Needs
DETROIT, March 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS (NYSE: EDS) today announced
the release of Vis Concept 3.0, a Teamcenter product from the company's PLM
Solutions line of business.
EDS made the announcement in conjunction with the Detroit SAE 2002 World
Congress, March 4-7, the largest automotive original equipment service, parts
and components exhibition in the world.
Vis Concept is a software solution used to present conceptual designs as
full-size virtual prototypes, and enables manufacturers to experience,
evaluate and explore products designs in a realistic virtual environment. Vis
Concept also allows designs to be presented to a wide range of prospects and
focus groups in the concept phase, helping to create a product that satisfies
the target market.
"Vis Concept offers a 1:1 scale immersive virtual reality environment,"

environment fosters innovation by allowing users to actively work with their
designs, to quickly review and evaluate multiple concepts early in the product
design phase before designs are fully committed and changes become
cost-prohibitive. Through this process, manufacturers can improve their

Using Vis Concept, users can present high-resolution, photo-realistic
designs on their desktop computers or on large screens up to eight feet in
height within special virtual reality environments known as CAVEs, PowerWalls,
and Desks. Physical prototypes are replaced with realistic, interactive 1:1
scale virtual prototypes that can be viewed in a three-dimensional virtual
reality setting using special 3D glasses. Vis Concept is CAD neutral,
supporting a wide range of industry CAD products through a Direct Model (.JT)
common data interface.

Along with notable improvements in speed and overall performance, other
enhancements in Vis Concept 3.0 include:
-- Multi-pass textures -- allows multiple combinations of environment
maps and textures to be applied to an object. This enhances the
realism of the user's virtual experience.
-- Bump mapping texture-blending method -- used to model realistic rough
surfaces on objects.
-- 3D text primitives -- allows users to generate 3D text and place it
anywhere in a 3D display.
-- Video display -- enables existing electronically recorded videos to be
displayed with immersive playback controls.
-- Behavior controlled sounds -- allows users to add sounds to their
virtual reality experience.
