More than 40,000 at Birthday Party
LEVERKUSEN, Germany, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer's bid to create the
world's biggest Aspirin(R) pack succeeded today when the final strip of
material cladding the 400 feet high headquarters building in Leverkusen was
zipped into place.

A crowd of more than 40,000 watched as free-climber Christian Schlesener,
one of a team of 30 mountaineers involved in the project, climbed his way up
the outside of the building before the final zipper was closed. They then
gasped as Bayer athlete Anke Feller, a women's 4x400 meter world record
holder, "ran" down the wrapped building, which will now have a place in the
Guinness Book of Records. Feller was fitted with a special harness attached
to a rope which was paid out as she ran.
The event was staged to mark the 100th anniversary of Bayer's flagship
brand Aspirin(R), a trademark registered by the company on March 6, 1899. As
well as the crowds at the all-day party in the park adjoining the huge pack,
countless more were able to follow the celebrations live on the Internet
(http://www.bayer.com/aspirin-live, on the Internet until March 21).
"It has been a great party in honor of our most famous product," commented
Bayer CEO Dr. Manfred Schneider afterwards. "The whole world has joined us in
celebrating the names of Bayer and Aspirin."
