WILTON, Conn., March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Startech Environmental Corp. (Nasdaq: STHK), a leading manufacturer of
plasma-based systems for the conversion of waste into useful commodity
products, announced today that Startech has been selected by Concurrent
Technologies Corporation (CTC) to demonstrate the ability of the Plasma
Converter System's (TM) to irreversibly destroy end-of-life (EOL) electronic
scrap in its DEER2 program. The contract amount is $70,000.00
CTC is a government contractor that operates the National Defense Center
for Environmental Excellence (NDCEE) which is a Department of Defense (DoD)
contract. The NDCEE was created for the development, application and
dissemination of advanced environmental technologies. The DEER2
"Demanufacturing of Electronic Equipment for Reuse and Recycling" (DEER2)
program is a task under the NDCEE contract. For additional information about
CTC and the DEER2 Program please visit their website at http://www.deer2.com.
This demonstration program will test the ability of Startech's Plasma
Converter System (PCS) to economically dispose of, and convert, end-of-life
(EOL) electronic scrap into a useable synthesis gas and inert melt using a
single step process. Multiple test runs will be conducted over the next few
months at our Engineering, Research and Demonstration Center in Bristol, CT.
Mr. Ralph Dechiaro, VP of Business Development, said, "This small test
program is another important step in the continuing validation of our product
by government and industry groups. It will expand our empirical technical
database while demonstrating the superiority of our Plasma Converter
technology in the destruction of mixed waste streams."
About Startech Environmental Corp:
Startech is an environmental equipment company whose Plasma Converter is
essentially an electrochemical system that, while safely destroying wastes,
even hazardous wastes, converts those materials into useful and valuable
commodity products. It does this economically, efficiently, with relatively
few moving parts, and without combustion. The prime mover in the Plasma
Converter process is the chemical dissociation (decomposition) of the feed
materials after which their elemental components (atoms) are reformed into
useful commodities. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has
designated materials, even if they may have once been regarded as wastes, or
hazardous wastes, undergoing such a recycling process, no longer as wastes,
but as "feedstocks." StarCell(TM) is the Company's patented hydrogen
selective membrane system that separates hydrogen from the gas (PCG(TM))
produced from the Plasma Converter. PCG is a clean synthesis fuel-gas mixture
with many commercial uses. StarCell is not a fuel cell; it is a ceramic
membrane filtration system that extracts hydrogen from PCG.
