Raytheon Achieves Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model (SEI CMM) Level 4 Rating at its Indianapolis Facility

    INDIANAPOLIS, March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has achieved a Level 4 rating for software
development as defined by the Software Engineering Institute's Capability
Maturity Model (SEI CMM) at another of its facilities. The results of a
successful assessment place Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC's
Indianapolis facility within an elite group of only 14 percent of
organizations worldwide that have achieved a Level 4 SEI CMM rating.
The scope of the assessment covered all the programs at the Indianapolis
facility that perform software development. The assessment team, composed of
Raytheon and government representatives and led by a certified assessor from
Raytheon's Tucson facility, conducted extensive interviews of employees and
reviewed more than 2,000 artifacts.
"I am very proud of the SEI CMM Level 4 certification for software
development at our Indianapolis facility. The achievement of this rating would
not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our employees,"
stated Bryan J. Even, a vice president of Raytheon Company and president of
Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC. "We are not looking at this simply as
a rating. We are interested in satisfying our customers' needs through real
process improvement to increase quality and productivity, and reduce risk,
cost and time-to-market for the products and systems that we develop."
CMM levels are increasingly used by government agencies and contractors to
evaluate the potential for organizations to produce quality products on time
and within budget. The Level 4 rating indicates that the defined and
documented processes for software engineering at Raytheon's Indianapolis
facility have been integrated into all software development projects, and all
projects are quantitatively managed to assure a high level of product and
process quality.
The assessment process to achieve a SEI CMM rating is monitored and
licensed by the Software Engineering Institute, which is administered by
Carnegie Mellon University and funded by the U.S. government. SEI's goal is to
address software and disciplines that have an impact on software by providing
integrated process improvement reference models, building broad industry
consensus, and enabling efficient improvement across disciplines. SEI's
Capability Maturity Model is recognized worldwide as a standard for measuring
an organization's software-development capability.
