FOSE 2003 to Champion Government Best-Practice Solutions In E-Town and Homeland Security Center

WASHINGTON, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- FOSE 2003, the largest and longest-
running technology tradeshow for government professionals, will showcase
government agency best practices in both E-Town, a showcase presented by
Accenture dedicated to enhancing citizen-centric services, and the Homeland
Security Center presented by Lockheed Martin.
"E-Town and the Homeland Security Center were developed to reflect the
Administration's focus and priorities," said Bill Howell, Executive Vice
President for PostNewsweek Tech Media and General Manager of FOSE. "Federal
spending on e-government related systems and services will continue its
dramatic rise from $3B in FY 2002 to over $5B in FY07, and, similarly, the
United States government will spend $55.6B this year alone on homeland
security. By presenting E-Town and the Homeland Security Center, FOSE is
acting on a need implicit in these figures.
"These initiatives detail just how effective government of all levels --
local, state, federal, and international -- can be at enacting their
business," Howell continued, "and FOSE is proud to team with Accenture and
Lockheed Martin to affirm the importance of these solutions in such a public
way."
E-Town, presented by Accenture and dedicated to the latest and most
effective citizen-centric e-government solutions is constructed to resemble a
working town. Inside, E-Town will showcase 25 applications from local, state,
national and international governments that tackle a variety of governmental
challenges such as accountability, workforce planning, e-government
convenience and accessibility, business transformation, and open
administration.
As a part of E-Town, the Federal Executive Leadership Councils annually
select and recognize a Showcase of Excellence. This year, nominees include
such diverse projects such as GovBenefits.gov, a vanguard web portal that
consolidates citizen information from numerous federal agencies by
standardizing a single questionnaire for all benefit programs; and the
Department of Veterans Affairs' Business Opportunities System (BOS) which
enables the electronic announcement, distribution, and award of procurement
actions via FedBizOps and the World Wide Web.
As security becomes integrated into our everyday lives, the Homeland
Security Center, presented by Lockheed Martin, takes on increasing
significance. The Homeland Security Center will present a selection of
homeland security initiatives presently employed by various local, state and
federal agencies.
This year, the Homeland Security Center will recognize 12 outstanding
solutions. Exhibitors include diverse solutions such as the US Coast Guard's
Integrated Deepwater System (IDS), a program which upgrades, modernizes and
replaces the Coast Guard's aging fleet of cutters and aircraft as well as its
command and control infrastructure; and the Defense Manpower Data Center's
Biometric Identification System (BIDS) which increases force protection to DoD
facilities around the world through improved authentication, more secure
access, automated law enforcement functions and logging of personal property
in a centralized biometric database.
Registered attendees are invited to stop by to see both E-Town and the
Homeland Security Center on FOSE's tradeshow floor from 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM,
Tuesday-Thursday, April 8-10. In addition to the exhibiting solutions, both
E-Town and the Homeland Security Center will host a series of theater
presentations open to all registered attendees.
FOSE will run from April 8-10, 2003 and will be the first event at the new
Washington DC Convention Center. Each year, FOSE attracts 18,000+ government
professionals to view leading-edge solutions from 450+ industry leaders in a
