SAN FRANCISCO, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Friendster today announced that its
users can now build online radio stations powered by Pandora's Music Genome
Project and share them with their friends. "Friendster Radio" leverages two
powerful ideas: social networking, pioneered by Friendster; and online music
discovery pioneered by Pandora.
Friendster Radio taps into Pandora's Music Genome Project, recently lauded
by Rolling Stone magazine, to develop radio stations based on an individual's
favorite artists or songs. The playlists are based on the Music Genome
Project's exhaustive analysis of thousands of songs across hundreds of musical
attributes.
Bringing Friendster and Pandora together takes the experience to another
level: Friendster Radio expands the universe of music discovery beyond the
individual listener to the listener's friends and the entire Friendster
Network. Friendster users build radio stations that can be shared, evolve,
and even become 'hits' on Friendster.
According to Larissa Le, Friendster's Product Director, "The combination
of the two elements creates a truly unique -- and incredibly powerful -- way
to discover and listen to music. There's just nothing like this anywhere
else."
Pandora Vice President of Business Development Jessica Stoner adds, "We're
excited to bring Pandora to social networking. Enabling people to discover
and enjoy great music -- and share it with their friends -- is what Pandora is
all about."
About Friendster
Friendster is the leading social site for keeping in touch with friends,
and meeting new people. Friendster is a privately-held company based in San
Francisco, California, backed by the venture firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield &
Byers.
About Pandora
Pandora is powered by the Music Genome Project(TM), the most sophisticated
taxonomy of musical information ever collected. Each song in the massive
database -- which includes Pop, Rock, Jazz, Electronica, Hip Hop, Country,
Blues, R&B, old, new, big names, and small acts -- is analyzed by trained
musician analysts along 400 distinct musical attributes to capture not only
the musical identity of a song, but also many significant qualities that are
relevant to understanding the musical preferences of consumers.
