LAS VEGAS, March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Washington, D.C.
chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
(NAACP) honored Lorenzo Creighton, who was recently appointed President &
Chief Operating Officer of MGM Grand Detroit, as one of America's
trailblazers in diversity.
At its annual Freedom Fund Dinner, the NAACP honored Creighton as a
"Barrier Breaker" who has helped blaze a path for African Americans.
Creighton, the first African American to hold the position of president on
the Las Vegas Strip, was recognized among notable individuals in business
and government, including the Honorable Lorraine Miller, the Honorable
James Clyburn, the Honorable Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Matthew Fogg, Ernie
Green and Lieutenant General Michael Rochelle.
Previously, Creighton served as President & Chief Operating Officer at
the company's New York - New York Hotel & Casino, a position he held since
2005. His career has been wide-ranging, having served as an attorney, judge
and gaming regulator. In addition, he has more than 10 years of experience
in casino operations.
Under Creighton's leadership, New York - New York began several
remodeling projects which have been honored by industry experts. In 2007,
the property was recognized by Meetings & Convention magazine with the
prestigious Gold Key Award. The award followed an extensive redesign and
expansion of the property's 21,000 square feet of meeting and convention
space. New York - New York also opened a newly-redesigned spa in August of
2007.
An active member of the community, Creighton has been honored for his
service with prestigious awards from Luther College (2005) and Black
Meetings & Tourism magazine (2006). He also received an esteemed Trumpet
Award (2006) for his contributions to the gaming industry.
