American Eagle Outfitters Reports Record February Total Sales of $61.1 Million And Total U.S. Sales of $55.8 Million; Total Sales Increased 31.8%

    WARRENDALE, Pa., March 7 /PRNewswire/ --
    American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEOS) today announced total sales
for the four weeks ended March 3, 2001 increased 31.8% to $61.1 million from
$46.4 million for the period ended February 26, 2000.  Total sales for the
four weeks ended March 3, 2001 includes $5.3 million from the
Thrifty's/Bluenotes operation that was acquired effective October 29, 2000.
    American Eagle Outfitters' U.S. sales for the four weeks ended March 3,
2001 increased 20.3% to $55.8 million from $46.4 million for the period ended
February 26, 2000.  U.S. same store sales for the four weeks ended March 3,
2001 decreased 4.5% compared to the corresponding four-week period ended
March 4, 2000.
    Founded in 1977, the Company designs, markets, and sells its own brand of
relaxed, clean, and versatile clothing for 16 to 34 year olds, providing high-
quality merchandise at affordable prices.  AE's lifestyle collection offers
casual basics like cargos complemented by fashion looks in stretch, denim, and
other modern fabrications.  Thrifty's/Bluenotes targets a slightly younger
demographic, offering a more urban/suburban, denim-driven collection for 12 to
22 year olds.  American Eagle Outfitters currently operates 557 American Eagle
Outfitters stores in 47 states and the District of Columbia, and
