Service Providers Gain Robust Platform for Enhanced Applications While
Reducing Communications Costs and Improving Productivity
SAN JOSE, Calif., VON, Booth #731 and #1009, March 7 /PRNewswire/ --
TimesTen, Inc., a provider of real-time infrastructure software and Tekelec
(Nasdaq: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for
next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced that the
TimesTen(R)/DataServer real-time database system is providing the data
management backbone within the Tekelec 6000 Application Server (former
VocalData application server). The T6000 enables service providers to deliver
a highly reliable, cost-effective hosted IP telephony service, supporting up
to 200 calls per second and the scaling of several hundred thousand
subscribers per node. Tekelec chose TimesTen/DataServer for its real-time
performance, scalability, high availability and proven track record.
Within the T6000, TimesTen/DataServer is managing each subscriber's
profile, including keeping track of each subscriber's devices, location and
advanced features such as voice mail, all crucial elements to enabling
services and connecting calls. TimesTen provides the same speed of data access
found in products like Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) without
sacrificing the ability to make updates in real time. This capability is a key
requirement for advanced services and allows service providers to cope with
continually changing user profiles more easily.
"In recent trials, the T6000 using TimesTen shows significant improvements
in larger data store configurations, providing a faster, more advanced and
scalable solution," said Sara Hughes, director, product management at Tekelec.
"This benefits our customers by enabling them to provide more advanced
services on a cost effective, flexible platform."
The Tekelec 6000 call features range from basic dial-tone to a full range
of advanced PBX features, including, unified messaging, user-scheduled
conferencing, find me/follow me and Web Portal capabilities that support
visual voicemail, click-to-dial and integration of directories and calendars
with telephony features. With the T6000, service providers are able to grow
revenues with substantially reduced capital expenditures and consistently
lower operating expenses.
"As Voice over IP becomes the predominant vehicle for convergence, the
infrastructure challenges of supporting massively growing usage and subscriber
populations continue to mount," said John Trembley, Director, Telecom and
Networking at TimesTen. "One of the major challenges TimesTen helps address
is the ability to access and update data in real time. Tekelec's application
server is an industry leading solution capable of scaling to handle the
demands from the largest service providers."
