The notion of adopting a reference level for mixing audio is not a new
one. In fact, both the music and filmmaking industries have adhered to a
specific reference level for decades. These reference levels are
scientifically designed to enable sound professionals to accurately hear every
detail during the audio mix, and accurately translate that to the end-user.
However, the game development community has been slow to embrace such a
standard, despite the increase in soundtracks being mixed for multi-channel
playback. During this presentation, panelists will discuss whether audio
reference levels are needed in game development environments, how they would
affect the final mix, and what level should be recommended and why.
