EL PASO, Texas, March 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- El Paso Electric
(NYSE: EE) today announced that Terry Bassham, Executive Vice President, Chief
Financial and Administrative Officer has resigned effective March 18, 2005 to
take a position with Great Plains Energy as Chief Financial Officer.
Great Plains Energy Incorporated is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri
and is the holding company for Kansas City Power & Light Company.
"In his years with El Paso Electric, Terry has served the Company
extremely well," said Gary Hedrick, President and Chief Executive Officer of
El Paso Electric. "His expertise on electric utility issues was a great asset
to the Company. This is an opportunity for Terry and we wish him well."

El Paso Electric has begun a search for a successor.
El Paso Electric is a regional electric utility providing generation,
transmission and distribution service to approximately 320,000 retail and
wholesale customers in a 10,000 square mile area of the Rio Grande valley in
west Texas and southern New Mexico. EPE has a net installed generation
capacity of approximately 1,500 MW. EPE's common stock trades on the New York
Stock Exchange under the symbol EE.
