World record shattered with 182,455,169 math questions answered correctly
DALLAS, March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- More than three quarters of a million
students from around the world logged on to http://www.worldmathday.com on
March 5, 2008, to celebrate World Math Day. By participating in the
competition to answer the most math questions correctly, students from more
than 100 countries answered a total of 182,455,169 questions, quickly
exceeding this year's 50 million question goal and shattering last year's
record of 38,904,275. The World Math Day competition was held in
partnership by Voyager Expanded Learning, 3P Learning and Cartoon Network.
The event began on March 5 west of the International Dateline and
continued through the last minute of March 5 east of the International
Dateline. Students of all ages and ability levels competed against each
other in real-time battles of speed and skill.
A total of 171,573 students in the United States logged on and
correctly answered 42,087,104 math questions, more than any other country
competing in the online competition.
