Starwood Announces the Opening of The Westin St. Louis; Most Distinctive Luxury Hotel in Downtown Area

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Westin St. Louis, the most
distinctive luxury hotel in downtown St. Louis, opened this morning with a
gala ribbon-cutting ceremony with Missouri Governor Bob Holden and senior
executives from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT),
Westin's parent company. Starwood will manage and operate the hotel under the
Westin brand for McCormack Baron & Associates and Sun America, the owners and
developers of the hotel.
The $75 million hotel is a key element of Cupples Station, the
$350 million redevelopment of downtown St. Louis that also includes a
combination of office, retail, housing and parking facilities.
The Westin St. Louis, located at the corner of Eighth and Clark Streets,
provides easy access to Busch Stadium (home of the St. Louis Cardinals),
Savvis Center (home of the St. Louis Blues), and the MetroLink light rail
system. The hotel occupies four turn-of-the-century warehouses while ensuring
the preservation of the Cupples Station complex, built between 1894 and 1917.
The interior design is modern, elegant and understated. There is a
juxtaposition of contemporary details with a variation of stone and wood
finishes that gives a hint of the history behind the building. Throughout the
hotel, an extensive art program focuses on top St. Louis artists, many of
which have shown their work nationally.
Each of the 257 guest rooms, including 15 suites, offers nearly 600 square
feet of living space as well as 11-foot-high ceilings. Guest room components
include a large work area with a two-line telephone with data port for high
speed internet access, bedside telephone, voice messaging, refreshment center,
cable television, in-room movies, mini-safe, coffee maker featuring Starbucks
coffee, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. Additionally, Westin's newest
product, The Heavenly Bed SM, is featured in all rooms, providing an oasis for
weary travelers. Introduced in the U.S. last year, Westin's Heavenly Bed
features a custom designed, pillow-top mattress set; cozy down blanket; high
quality, high thread count linens; crisp white duvet coverlet and five
queen-size and king-size pillows.
For group functions, the hotel provides more than 9,000 square feet of
meeting space including 17 conference and banquet rooms and a
2,542-square-foot grand ballroom. For dining, there is the Clark Street
Grill, a full-service restaurant with private dining room. The Grill features
contemporary cuisine with shades of Asian and Caribbean flavors, a lobby bar
with seasonal entertainment, 24-hour fitness center, nightly turn-down
service, full-service business center, valet parking and 24-hour room service.
Guests of The Westin St. Louis will also enjoy added benefits offered only
by Westin. Service Express(R), a "one call does it all" concept, allows
guests to dial just one number on their telephone to order 24-hour room
service, call the bellman or room attendant, or have any other request filled.
Additionally, The Westin St. Louis keeps in mind the special needs of families
traveling with children with the Westin Kids Club(R) program. The club
includes provisions for children's safety and security, as well as
conveniences designed to make overnight and dining experiences more enjoyable
for parents and children.
Guests who stay at The Westin St. Louis are able to earn their way toward
free travel in Starwood's frequent guest program, Starwood Preferred Guest.
With more than 700 participating hotels and resorts around the world, the
program is the industry's most global and offers a structure focused on
