Continental Airlines and Amtrak Launch Comprehensive Codeshare for Travel; Partnership Will Create Seamless Journey for Travelers in the Northeast

HOUSTON and WASHINGTON, March 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental
Airlines (NYSE: CAL) and Amtrak tomorrow will launch their comprehensive
air/rail codeshare agreement announced earlier this year. The agreement will
allow travelers to transfer easily between Amtrak's northeast rail service in
four major cities to air service via Continental Airlines at the airline's
New York/Newark hub.
Under the landmark agreement, Continental Airlines will place its
designator (CO*) code on Amtrak's Acela Regional and Keystone trains for
connecting itineraries between Newark International Airport and four Northeast
cities served by Amtrak -- Philadelphia, Pa., Wilmington, Del., Stamford,
Conn., and New Haven, Conn.
The unique codeshare agreement expands options and destinations for
travelers using Amtrak and Continental. For example, Continental customers
will be able to link to 17 Amtrak connections operated between Newark
International Airport's new, state-of-the-art Northeast Corridor rail terminal
and Philadelphia every weekday, a level of service unmatched by any airline.
In addition, Amtrak customers whose travel begins in Philadelphia, Wilmington,
Stamford, and New Haven are able to connect at Newark International Airport to
more than 300 daily Continental Airlines flights to more than 100 cities
throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Customers may make one reservation for both air and rail services by
calling Continental Airlines at 1-800-525-0280, by logging onto
continental.com or through a travel agent. The rail portion of the itinerary
will show a Continental flight number.
Customers on codeshare segments who are members of either corporation's
loyalty program may choose to earn either Continental OnePass miles or Amtrak
Guest Rewards points when they travel, and can exchange miles and points
between the programs. In addition, members of Continental's OnePass program
may earn miles when traveling on Amtrak's premiere Metroliner and Acela
Express services between New York and either Boston or Washington, DC.
