Amarillo Biosciences Announces That Newly Published Research Supports Oral Interferon Efficacy and Safety

    AMARILLO, Texas, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Amarillo Biosciences, Inc.
(Nasdaq: AMAR) today announced that research supported by a licensee of
Amarillo Biosciences, was published in two articles in the March issue of the
Journal of Interferon and Cytokine Research (Volume 19, 1999).  These articles
entitled, "Oromucosal Interferon Therapy: Marked Antiviral and Antitumor
Activity" and "Oromucosal Interferon Therapy: Pharmacokinetics and
Pharmacodynamics" support the use of oral interferon in the management of
various viral infections and transplantable tumors.  "Although these studies
were conducted in mice, they improve our understanding of the mechanism of
action of oral interferon and point toward possible new human uses of oral
interferon," said Dr. Joseph M. Cummins, President and CEO of Amarillo
Biosciences.  "The scientists at the Laboratory of Viral Oncology at the
Institute of Research in Cancer in Villejuif, France have explored a range of
oromucosal doses of different interferons and have identified clinical benefit
with interferon alpha, interferon beta and interferon gamma," noted Kathleen
