Novus Plans to Develop Internet-based Infrastructure Using Netscape's Suite
Of Hosting Solutions and E-Commerce Applications
MOUNTAIN VIEW Calif., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Novus Telecom Group Inc., a
supplier of integrated communication services to high density, residential
multiple dwelling complexes in major Canadian cities, and Netscape
Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: NSCP) today announced that they are
working together to offer Novus customers bundled voice, video and data
services. The multi-million dollar deal will enable Novus to become one of
the first integrated communications service providers to deliver Internet-
based communications solutions to Canadian residents of multiple dwelling
units (MDU).
Novus will leverage a combination of Netscape's messaging platform and
e-commerce applications that initially includes Netscape(R) Messaging Server
Hosting Edition, Netscape(R) Directory Server, Netscape(R) BillerXpert,
Netscape(R) ECXpert and Netscape(R) TradingXpert to develop and deploy an
integrated Internet and enterprise software infrastructure. This framework
will enable Novus to integrate traditional Internet services, such as email,
with key professional functions including profiling, service order management,
customer service and billing.
With the new Internet service structure, a resident of an MDU supported by
Novus will be able to purchase a communications package with standard
telephone services, an email account, high-speed Internet access and cable
television connection. As Novus continues to "wire" selected MDUs and expand
its services, residents will have the option to choose a communications combo
that fits their lifestyle.
"Netscape is working with Novus and Nortel Networks, Novus'
telecommunications network partner, to build an e-commerce infrastructure that
will link Novus' internal systems to a single platform that we can then extend
to our residential customers, partners and suppliers," said Ian Robertson,
president and chief executive officer of Novus.
"We are witnessing the dawn of a new era in communications, and Netscape's
solutions are enabling companies to dramatically increase their business
services to help residential and business customers harness the benefits of
the Internet," said Todd Finch, president of Netscape Canada. "We are
thrilled to be on the front lines with Novus as they align their business to
bring bundled Internet and telecommunications services to Canada in the
shortest possible time."
"Individuals and businesses are increasingly looking to the Internet to
streamline communications, and Novus will be at the forefront of the
telecommunications industry in providing leading e-commerce solutions," said
Ian Craig, president of Carrier Solutions at Nortel Networks. "Nortel's
architecture coupled with Netscape's platform provides for maximum flexibility
and scalability allowing Novus to adapt quickly to these evolving customer
requirements and market demands."
Netscape Messaging Server Hosting Edition and Netscape Directory Server
provide customers with a powerful tool-set to host and manage large scale
Internet messaging services, such as Internet Mail Access Protocol- (IMAP)
based email, Web-mail and unified messaging. The Internet-class scalability
and performance of Netscape's messaging and server products enables Novus to
enhance its business services model for a low total cost of implementation.
Netscape ECXpert and Netscape TradingXpert are designed to extend the
reach of trading communities with diverse partners over existing private
networks and the Internet. The applications are built on open standards to
support a wide range of data formats and protocols to eliminate technology
barriers between trading partners.

application designed to enable enterprise service providers to enhance the
billing process, strengthen customer relationships and generate new revenue
streams.

delivery of Novus' integrated Internet and applications infrastructure with
