reports the following monthly activity for the period ended February 28, 2002:
* Total trades per day averaged 103,400. This is a 10% decrease from
January 2002, and 24% lower than February 2001.
* Total customer assets were $136 billion as of February 28, 2002,
down 2% from January 2002 and unchanged from February 2001.
* New accounts opened totaled 43,500. This is a 3% increase from January
2002 and 21% lower than February 2001.
* Margin loans were $3.8 billion at February 28, 2002. This compares to
$3.9 billion a month earlier and is a decrease of 33% from February 28,
2001.
* In the early part of March 2002, the firm has experienced a
26% increase in trade per day activity from the previous month's
average.
