Public Sector Linux Solutions Forum Launches; Open Source Takes a Stake at Government at FOSE 2005

WASHINGTON, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Open source for government will gain
new ground at the Linux Solutions Government program being held at FOSE 2005,
the most comprehensive technology exposition serving the government market.
FOSE 2005, April 5-7 at the Washington D.C. Convention Center, attracts 25,000
members of the government technology community to explore exhibits from more
than 500 companies, hear from industry keynotes, and attend educational
forums.
The Linux Solutions Government program at FOSE 2005 will consist of a
dedicated demonstration area, the Linux Pavilion & Theater on the tradeshow
floor; a robust one-day Linux Solutions Government Conference in the Linux
Pavilion Theater; and as a pre-cursor to FOSE, the Linux Solutions Government
Guide in the April issue of Linux Magazine. Linux, an open source operating
system derived from Unix that enables users to access and modify its 1.5
million lines of source code, has been growing in acceptance in governmental
organizations worldwide.
"Case studies about major Linux implementations in the U.S. Navy, U.S.
Department of Energy, National Weather Service, State of Nebraska and
Pottawattamie County will be presented. Attendees will be able to ask
specific questions regarding cost and benefits of implementing a Linux
Solution, ROI, total cost of ownership, vendor selection and more," said
Lorenz Hassenstein, Vice President, Events, PostNewsweek Tech Media. "The
trend toward adopting an open source platform in government is strong, and
FOSE will give the tech community a chance to hear from Federal, state and
local governments and view demonstrations from a variety of corporations
offering Linux products and services, including IBM, Novell, Dell, Penguin
Computing, and MySQL."
