CodeWarrior(TM) Development System for Embedded Networks Includes Hardware And
Software Tools, Real-Time Operating System, Sample Application
SAN FRANCISCO, March 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESC WEST -- Helping
hardware and software engineers address the challenges of making devices more
intelligent, Metrowerks, a Motorola company, is releasing a comprehensive,
integrated solution for developing embedded networking applications.
CodeWarrior(TM) Development System, Embedded Network Edition, arms engineers
with hardware and software tools from four of the industry's leading providers
of embedded development solutions: Metrowerks, Motorola, Lineo, and Embedded
Planet.
Several factors ranging from government regulation, to corporate cost
cutting, to simple consumer demand, are driving commercial equipment
manufactures to create "smart", networked devices that can be remotely
operated and monitored. Common examples include security systems, vending
machines, Internet appliances, information kiosks, and cooking and
refrigeration equipment used in the restaurant industry.
The challenge this has created for embedded systems developers is
obtaining the necessary hardware, software, and development tools from
multiple providers and ensuring that they are all compatible and interoperate
properly. CodeWarrior Development System, Embedded Network Edition,
eliminates the need for piece-parts solutions by combining fully tested and
integrated components.
"These development systems offer customers a high level and stable
development platform through the tight integration of market leading OS,
board, and tools products," said Alford Frost, senior vice president of
marketing, Lineo. "Developers can now jump start their development processes
using these ready-made platforms knowing that the combined strength of Lineo,
Metrowerks, and Motorola is available to insure their development success."
The development system is available for Motorola ColdFire(R) processors
and for Motorola microprocessors compatible with the PowerPC instruction set
simulator. Each system includes CodeWarrior embedded development tools, an
evaluation board (Motorola's MCF5272, or Embedded Planet's MPC850 or MPC860),
the proven and reliable RTXC Quadros(TM) real-time operating system from
Lineo, and a working, Internet-enabled sample application. Metrowerks also
provides the option of purchasing either an Evaluation Edition or a Fully
Licensed Edition. This comprehensive package enables developers to quickly
evaluate the hardware and software and begin developing their application
immediately, all at an attractive entry price point.
"This development system is another example of Metrowerks' focus on
providing our customers with integrated solutions that help them do their jobs
more easily and more efficiently," said John Smolucha, vice president of
marketing, Metrowerks. "The combination of our development tools with best-
in-class products from industry leaders like Motorola, Lineo, and Embedded
Planet should bring peace of mind to hardware and software engineers looking
to develop applications for embedded networks."

includes the new version of CodeWarrior Development Tools for ColdFire
Embedded Systems, announced today. Version 3.0 is a powerful and easy-to-use
tools suite designed specifically to increase development productivity for the
Motorola ColdFire family of embedded microprocessors, including the MCF5206e,
MCF5307, MCF5407 and the Ethernet-ready MCF5272. Built-in debugging and
analysis support for leading RTOS vendors simplifies development for
industrial control, low-end networking, and general 32-bit control
applications. Version 3.0 also includes an improved compiler for faster,
tighter code with a state-of-the-art project manager and build system, code
browser, deployment and code navigation system.
In addition, Metrowerks will ship in April of this year an updated version
of its CodeWarrior Development Tools for PowerPC Embedded Systems.
