Raytheon Secures Two Further Contracts for Air Traffic Control Radars in China

HARLOW, England, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Systems Limited (RSL)
has just won a further two contracts to supply and install Monopulse Secondary
Surveillance Radars (MSSRs) for air traffic control in the People's Republic
of China. These latest systems are to be located at or near the cities of
Guangzhou and Xi'an.
The two contracts, signed with the Air Traffic Management Bureau (ATMB) of
the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), were achieved in a record
time of two days. This means that RSL now has won business in all six of the
ATMB regions of China for a total of 25 MSSR systems.
The MSSR at Xi'an will provide regional radar coverage while the Guangzhou
system will be located at the new airport currently being built outside of the
city. Both systems are due to be completed by the first quarter of 2003.
Mick Reeve, Raytheon's ATC business executive, said, "We are delighted to
have secured still more orders from the Peoples Republic. China is now one of
our largest customers and this illustrates the combination of fast growth and
modernisation of commercial aircraft services in this huge country. The speed
of the contract negotiations themselves highlights the benefits of
establishing a 'model' contract and negotiating a catalogue price with the
ATMB."
