ChipWrights, Inc., Provider of DSPs for Mobile Image Processing, Joins Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC)

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif., March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- EEMBC, the Embedded
Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium, today announced that ChipWrights, Inc., a
provider of digital signal processing (DSP) technology for mobile imaging
applications, is the consortium's newest member.
"We're delighted that ChipWrights has joined the leaders in the embedded
industry who are turning to EEMBC benchmarking as a way to provide customers
with objective, certifiable performance evaluations of their processors," said
Markus Levy, EEMBC president. "We hope and expect that ChipWrights will play
a key role in the further development of EEMBC's suite of benchmarks aimed at
consumer applications, which will additionally provide an excellent
opportunity for ChipWrights to showcase the capabilities of its new CWvx
architecture."
Announced in February 2002, ChipWrights' CWvx is a high-performance,
highly scalable architecture targeted at mobile image and video processing
applications. Integrating a DSP and RISC processor, the chip's blend of RISC,
SIMD, and vector processing features is intended to provide efficient image
processing in battery-powered products such as digital cameras and mobile
communications devices. Designed with the programming flexibility to support
applications such as MPEG-4 encoding and JPEG2000, the CWvx will be used to
replace fixed-function imaging and compression ASIC devices.
"We are proud to join EEMBC and take our place among distinguished
colleagues in the embedded industry," said Brian Fitzgerald, president and CEO
of ChipWrights. "ChipWrights is keenly interested in helping advance the
development of meaningful performance benchmarks in embedded applications.
These efforts will promote industry integrity and help speed the embedded
development process by offering developers a reliable platform upon which to
make informed choices."

    About EEMBC
EEMBC, the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium, develops and
certifies real-world benchmarks and benchmark scores to help designers select
the right embedded processors for their systems. Every processor submitted
for EEMBC(R) benchmarking is tested for parameters representing different
workloads and capabilities in communications, networking, consumer, office
automation, automotive/industrial, embedded Java, and microcontroller-related
applications. With members including leading semiconductor, intellectual
property, and compiler companies, EEMBC establishes benchmark standards and
provides certified benchmarking results through the EEMBC Certification Labs
(ECL) in Texas and California.
EEMBC members include: Agere Systems, Altera, ARC, ARM, BOPS, Cadence,
