ModemModule Combines 56K/V.92 Modem Functions With TCP/IP Protocol
Embedded Systems Conference, Moscone Convention Center, Booth #4871
SAN FRANCISCO, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a
leading data communications technology company based in suburban Minneapolis,
today announces a new model of the company's line of embedded communications
modules designed for use in communications-ready devices. The new
Internet-ready ModemModule IP combines the latest in 56K bps/V.92 modem
technology with a complete TCP/IP protocol stack. It is a single 1 inch by 3
inch component, which can add Internet connectivity to any device with a
minimum of development time and expense. Developed for applications that
periodically need to send and receive data, the ModemModule IP fits the
rapidly expanding new generation of devices that operate over the Internet
independent of a PC or other external computer. The ModemModule IP is now
shipping, and is in the process of completing international compliance testing
(homologation) for global approval with a single module.
"The new ModemModule IP adds another dimension to our existing line of
combination data and fax models," states Chip Harleman, Vice President of
Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "This product is designed to
embed Internet connectivity inside commercial, personal, and industrial
devices easily and quickly thereby reducing design costs, development time and
personnel resources. There is a constant stream of applications being
developed that require the periodic sending and receiving of data over the
Internet. The ModemModule IP operates at rates from 300 bps up to V.92's 56K
speeds and has successfully completed compliance testing for use worldwide."
The new ModemModule IP can embed Internet connectivity capability inside
any device. It is a 1-inch by 3-inch component that communicates with
existing designs though a standard serial interface. The ModemModule IP
includes an ITU V.92 56K bps modem that supports ITU V.44 compression, and
includes ITU V.34 "super G3" fax capabilities. It also includes a complete
TCP/IP protocol stack and several embedded Internet applications. The
ModemModule IP sends and receives over the Internet without connecting to a PC
or gateway and can serve a single web page located in its internal memory.
The ModemModule IP initiates an ISP connection upon command from its "host"
device. It executes the necessary commands to dial, login, authenticate,
communicate and then sign off with the ISP. The ModemModule IP can also
function as a standard modem communicating over the PSTN.
Shipping now, the ModemModule IP is available in single units or OEM packs
of 50. A developer's kit also is available, which includes a prototype design
board with a power transformer, serial cable, phone cable, and a developer's
manual on CD.
