Lineo Embedix SDK Is Customized for Development on The
IBM STB03xxx Evaluation Kit
SAN FRANCISCO, Embedded Systems Conference 2002, Booth #2110, March 12
/PRNewswire/ -- Lineo(R), Inc., a leading innovator of embedded operating
system software and host development environments for vertical-specific
markets today announced availability of a complete development environment for
digital set-top boxes based on the IBM PowerPC(R)-based STB03xxx Evaluation
Kit. Utilizing the Lineo Embedix(R) SDK and customized board support package
(BSP) for the IBM kit, developers can quickly build, debug and deploy a
customized Linux- solution to their set-top box.
Lineo's Embedix BSP and SDK development environment enables embedded
system developers to quickly bring up new hardware, resolve integration issues
and facilitate the production and test of completed products.
Lineo will demonstrate this development environment on IBM's set-top box
demonstration platform at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco
March 13-15th in booth #2110.
The Embedix BSP for the IBM evaluation kit includes unique packaging
features that enable developers to quickly integrate IBM's device drivers.
The Embedix BSP also includes applications such as a browser and GUI that are
pre-packaged for fast and easy integration. Utilizing Lineo's award-winning
Embedix SDK, developers can immediately begin creating and customizing higher-
level middleware and applications. Embedix SDK provides advanced tools for
conflict and dependency checking as well as debug capabilities for both target
and host. The Embedix BSP, together with the Embedix SDK, accelerates the
creation of OEM products thereby reducing the time it takes to bring
interactive television applications from service providers to consumers.
Lineo and IBM continue to work closely, enabling the porting of advanced
applications and interactive content to Linux-based IBM platforms.
"IBM's advanced capabilities combined with Lineo's development environment
is intended to allow OEMs the opportunity to rapidly deliver high quality,
interactive digital television solutions," said John Sixsmith, marketing
manager, Digital Video Products Group, IBM Microelectronics. "IBM's set-top
box chips are well suited for advanced applications including personal video
recorder (PVR) functionality, web access and interactivity."
"Lineo is pleased to provide support for IBM's advanced line of processors
for set-top boxes and residential gateways," said Matt Harris, CEO of Lineo.
"The combined expertise of IBM and Lineo provides OEMs with the latest
embedded development technology and unparalleled support. OEMs can now
quickly develop and deploy their products to consumers."
