TimeSys Announces Availability of Real-Time Embedded Linux Solution For Sun(TM) Microsystems' UltraSPARC(TM) II Processor Architecture

Real-Time Embedded Linux Solution for the Sun(TM) CP2060 Board
                               Is Now Available

SAN FRANCISCO and PITTSBURGH, March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Embedded Systems
Conference - TimeSys Corporation, a pioneer and leader in Embedded Linux and
Java(TM) development technologies, today announced that its Linux-based
solutions have been optimized to support Sun(TM) Microsystems' UltraSPARC(TM)
IIe family of processors. A board support package (BSP) for TimeSys Linux and
development tools optimized for Sun's CP2060 embedded board, based on the
UltraSPARC IIe processor, is now available from http://www.TimeSys.com. Support for
the UltraSPARC architecture expands TimeSys' overall footprint to include an
even larger range of processor architectures that include IA32 (x86), ARM,
PowerPC, MIPS, SuperH, and Xscale.
"Sun Microsystems is throwing its weight behind Linux as a key component
of their solution for embedded systems, and as a strategic partner, we're
committed to providing designers with a complete embedded Linux solution for
Sun's UltraSPARC family of processors," said TimeSys President and CEO Larry
Weidman. "Our BSP for the CP2060 board will provide designers building
embedded systems for network equipment providers and carriers for the
telecommunications industry with the first real-time embedded Linux solution
for the UltraSPARC IIe processor."
TimeSys has developed a Board Support Package (BSP) specifically optimized
for the architectural features of the Sun CP2060 board package. The TimeSys
CP2060 BSP will feature TimeSys Linux GPL, consisting of a fully featured
preemptible kernel that extends a standard Linux distribution to support the
predictable, extremely low-latency response requirements of embedded systems
based on Sun Microsystems' UltraSPARC IIe architecture. Available for the
CP2060 BSP are additional TimeSys kernel modules that transform TimeSys Linux
GPL to meet the requirements of applications ranging from handheld devices and
telecommunication switches to process control and avionics. TimeSys
Linux/Real-Time delivers additional capabilities to deliver full response
predictability to TimeSys Linux GPL. TimeSys Linux/CPU and /Net provide
capabilities for dynamic load handling and system overload protection. Used
in conjunction with TimeSys' cross-platform development tools, TimeSys
provides a complete embedded Linux-based solution for the CP2060 board.
TimeSys' BSP for the Sun CP2060 delivers a complete solution for embedded
engineers that include:

-- Support for the CP2060 for TimeSys' complete embedded-Linux product
       offering
-- Linux board-hosted GNU tool chains
    -- IA32 (x86) Linux cross-platform GNU tool chains
-- Timing analysis core for use by TimeSys' event tracing and timing
       visualization tool: TimeTrace
    -- Certified device drivers
    -- User and API documentation

Supporting Windows-based developers, TimeSys supports the CP2060 with the
following set of Windows-based cross-development tools:

-- TimeStorm: TimeSys' Windows-hosted Integrated Development Environment
       for cross-platform development
-- TimeTrace: a Windows-hosted tool for event tracing and timing
       visualization
    -- TimeWiz: a Windows-hosted real-time analysis and simulation tool

TimeSys will be demonstrating the full range of capabilities of its
embedded Linux operating system, development tools, and proprietary
performance enhancing modules at the Embedded Systems Conference at the
Moscone Center in San Francisco, March 12-16.

    About TimeSys
TimeSys is a pioneer and leader in Embedded Linux and Java development
technologies. Its products allow design engineers to leverage the power,
flexibility and reliability of a new class of development tools for advanced
embedded systems for a variety of markets and applications, covering the
complete performance range from non-real-time to deterministic hard real-time,
using both open-source and proprietary technologies. TimeSys is considered
the top choice by systems architects for developing more robust, less
expensive, single API Linux solutions for embedded systems. TimeSys was the
first to create a reservation technology that guarantees system response, even
in overloaded systems. TimeSys solutions offer completely predictable and
fast response time performance. For more information about TimeSys, please
