SAN FRANCISCO, March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- InHand Electronics, Inc., a leader
in creating ultra-portable handheld device platforms for OEMs, today announced
at the Embedded Systems Conference the immediate availability of its new Elf
platform, dubbed the Elf2. This new version incorporates advanced wireless
technologies such as a Bluetooth transceiver and a Global Positioning System
(GPS) receiver, and also includes a high-performance LCD controller capable of
supporting a wide variety of color displays.
"Our new full-featured Elf2 platform embodies the low-power consumption
and significant peripheral integration of the original Elf," said Andrew
Girson, InHand's CEO. "With the addition of low-power Bluetooth and GPS
wireless technologies, the Elf2 is designed to provide a complete core
solution for developers of full-featured handheld devices."
The Elf2 also benefits from InHand's award-winning BatterySmart system
software suite, with features such as dynamic clock-scaling, reduced power
peripheral software drivers, automatic CPU bandwidth detection and adjustment,
and advanced measurement and analysis tools. Both the Bluetooth and GPS
peripherals interface with the main CPU through BatterySmart's power-optimized
software drivers. Using BatterySmart, Elf2's overall power consumption is
maintained in the range of 500 to 1500 mW, at a 200MHz clock frequency.
New Elf2 development platforms are available now with InHand's
BatterySmart 2 software for Microsoft Corp.'s Windows CE 3.0. Development
platform pricing will be $3995, and as a special promotion, development
platforms with standard Bluetooth and GPS peripherals will be discounted
$1,000 through March 2002.
