PITTSBURGH, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel
traffic updates from the Trumbull Corporation for the week of March 18, 2002
are below.
ft. pitt boulevard at commonwealth place
Beginning March 18, 2002 motorists will encounter a change in traffic
patterns at the merge of Commonwealth Place and Fort Pitt Boulevard leading to
the onramp of the Fort Duquesne Bridge as construction crews remove a portion
of the island for lane widening.
Work will conclude Wednesday, March 27.
route 51 south ramp to interstate 279 south
Beginning March 18, 2002 motorists will encounter a change in traffic
patterns on the Route 51 south ramp to Interstate 279 south and the Banksville
Road exit as construction crews widen this ramp.
Work will conclude Wednesday, March 27.
liberty tunnel and route 51 interchange
Beginning March 18, 2002, motorists will encounter a change in traffic
patterns near the Route 51 and Liberty Tunnel interchange, as well as the
Route 51 and Warrington Avenue interchange.
Work will conclude on Friday, March 29, 2002.
route 51 south and north ramp/interstate 279 south
Motorists will encounter changes in traffic patterns on the southbound and
northbound ramps of Route 51 and Interstate 279 south beginning Friday,
March 22, 2002 at 10 p.m. and concluding Monday, March 25 at 6 a.m. Work will
include:
ROUTE 51 SOUTH RAMP
The south Route 51 ramp to Interstate 279 south will close as
construction crews widen the roadway and install safety barriers.
The posted detour will direct motorists traveling to Interstate 279
south from Route 51 south to continue south on Route 51, past the closed
ramp, and take the exit to Woodruff Street. At the traffic light,
motorists will make a left turn re-connecting with Route 51 north to
Interstate 279 south.
ROUTE 51 NORTH RAMP
The north Route 51 ramp to Interstate 279 south will be open with a lane
shift beginning on the ramp and continuing to the Interstate 279
connection.
INTERSTATE 279 SOUTH
Traveling through the Ft. Pitt Tunnel on Interstate 279 south motorists
will encounter a single lane traffic pattern to the Banksville Road as
construction crews develop a crossover traffic pattern connecting
traffic traveling south and north on Route 51 to Interstate 279 south.
These changes in traffic patterns are in preparation for the Fort Pitt
Bridge and Tunnel alternate routes that will be in effect April 6, 2002.
Motorists are encouraged to follow the posted detour routes and drive safely
through construction zones.
