At Sport Psychology Workshop, Uri Geller Bends a Tennis Racket for the First Time

Witnessed by Former ATP Tour Pro Barry Cowan, Queens Club Architect Nicholas
                           Meletiou and Many Others

LONDON, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The first day of Dr. John F. Murray's
Smart Tennis Sport Psychology Workshops ended on a thrilling note Friday
afternoon as famous spoon bender Uri Geller bent a vintage Wilson T-2000
tennis racket (pictures available upon request) after giving an inspirational
speech. The workshop was held at the David Lloyd Club Raynes Park in London.
Murray and Geller appeared together last week on the largest syndicated
morning radio show, The Doug Stephan Show, to discuss the power of the mind
and sport psychology. In the broadcast to more than 450 stations, Stephan
asked Geller how he could bend a tennis racket. Geller responded that he had
never tried.
Geller spoke about his rise to fame from humble roots, and about the power
of the mind to achieve almost anything. In one demonstration on positive
thinking and the dangers of negativity, he out-muscled Barry Cowan, a British
tennis player who beat Roger Federer, and took Pete Sampras to 5 sets at
Wimbledon, after instructing Cowan to think negative thoughts.
After Geller bent and broke spoons, guests inspected a metal tennis racket
from the club pro shop and declared it straight and sturdy. But after Geller
applied several light strokes to the racket's surface, the racket bent and
continued bending for some time. Also in attendance were club management, LTA
tennis coach Paul Barton, and 15 guests.
Murray, a licensed sport performance psychologist and author of "Smart
Tennis: How to Play and Win the Mental Game," cover-endorsed by Lindsay
Davenport, helped Vincent Spadea overcome the longest losing streak. His
workshops offer fun and improved mental performance. Murray invited his friend
Geller to the workshop, teasing him that he needed help with his mental game.
