McAfee, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
and other Cyber Storm II participants, exercises U.S. cybersecurity to
assess national preparedness and response to a simulated, widespread
cyberattack.
WASHINGTON, March 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE:
MFE), the world's largest dedicated security company, today announced its
strategic involvement in the DHS-led Cyber Storm II exercise. Cyber Storm
is the nation's largest and most comprehensive cybersecurity exercise.
Cyber Storm unites government, private industry, and international
participants in examining the processes, procedures, tools, and
organizational responses needed to address a multi-sector, coordinated
attack through, and on, global cyber infrastructure. As an integral
participant, McAfee was instrumental in providing expertise and support in
each of these core exercise areas.
"We're proud to be a trusted advisor and integral participant in this
monumental exercise," said Carl Banzhof, McAfee vice president, chief
technology evangelist and Cyber Storm II participant. "Cyberattacks are a
serious national security threat. We applaud the DHS's leadership in
uniting government and industry to proactively address this issue."
Cyber Storm II is a continuation of the successful Cyber Storm I
exercise, where McAfee was also a major participant. This year's Cyber
Storm II exercise applied many government and private sector concepts and
processes developed since Cyber Storm I, some of which included:
-- Examining organizational preparation, protection and response
capabilities during a cyberattack.
-- Validating information-sharing relationships and communications paths
to collect and disseminate situational awareness, response, and
recovery information.
-- Examining means and processes through which to share sensitive
information across boundaries and sectors, without compromising
proprietary or national security interests.
Cyber Storm II is intended to act as a catalyst for assessing
communications, coordination, and partnerships across critical
infrastructure sectors during a national-scale cyber incident. Exercise
planning and execution provides the opportunity to establish and strengthen
cross-sector, inter-governmental, and international relationships that are
critical during the exercise and in actual cyber response situations.
