TRUMBULL, Conn., March 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oxford Health Plans
Inc. (NYSE: OHP) announced today that it has signed a multi-year agreement
with Middlesex Professional Services, Inc. (MPS), a network of 300 physicians
in Connecticut's Middlesex County. This agreement marks the first between MPS
and Oxford, and will enable Oxford's insured members to receive in-network
medical services from providers within this network.
"As Oxford expands its geographic reach in Connecticut, it is important
that we develop a comprehensive network of providers that our members residing
in Middlesex County can easily access," said Brendan Kerrigan, regional vice
president, Connecticut sales at Oxford. "The agreement we have reached with
Middlesex Professional Services, Inc. will enable us to provide our members
with greater choice and flexibility, and continued access to the best
healthcare in the Connecticut marketplace."
Through this agreement, Oxford will strengthen its network of physicians
in central and eastern Connecticut, bringing Oxford's total network of
physicians throughout the state to more than 9,700. In addition to expanding
its network, Oxford has introduced a number of new benefit plans in
Connecticut to grow its presence throughout the state. These products include
Oxford's HMO Laurel Select(SM), Freedom Plan(R) Laurel(SM) and Freedom Plan(R)
Laurel Select(SM). With the addition of MPS and the new healthcare benefit
designs, Oxford is in a better position to cover a greater percentage of the
more than two million Connecticut residents in managed care plans.
