SAN FRANCISCO, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Piracy has long been a
multibillion dollar issue for the videogame industry. With the growing
popularity of downloadable games, and the recent launch of controversial
software that is designed to make back-up copies of PC games (but commonly
used by consumers to illegally share games), game piracy issues are on the
minds of consumers and game industry veterans alike.
Gabe Zichermann of Trymedia Systems, an industry veteran and expert on
game software distribution security issues is available at (or prior to) the
Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Jose, CA next week to address such
issues as:
-- Consumers' right under the law to make back-up copies of games.
-- Consumer game download habits.
-- Consumer sharing habits of retail PC games.
-- The game industries' adaptation of various models to combat piracy.
Trymedia Systems is sponsoring an entire programming track on game
security at GDC on Wednesday, March 24th. The sessions, which all take place
in room C4 of the San Jose Convention Center, will include:
-- Security in an Unsecured Environment, George Goodman, 9-10am
-- Inside the Hacker Mind, Andres Torrubia, 2:30-3:30pm
-- Feel Good Game Security, Gabe Zichermann, 4-5pm

MEDIA NOTE: Zichermann will release the results of a recent survey on
sharing habits among PC game purchasers during his business-oriented session
Feed Good Game Security. Discussion will focus on the game industry's
changing model for protecting games without treading on consumer rights.
Other Security track sessions will have a more technical bent. Trymedia
Systems will be located in GDC booth #844.
