HOUSTON, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Shell Oil Company and Motiva Enterprises
LLC are proud to announce that the American Red Cross has recognized the
charitable spirit and generous donations of Shell and Motiva with the 2005
Circle of Humanitarians Award. The Circle of Humanitarians Award honors
companies and individuals whose generous contributions provide life-saving
support through American Red Cross programs.
Shell and Motiva are receiving the Circle of Humanitarians Award for
financial contributions made by the companies and their employees during
2004-05 to the American Red Cross' disaster relief funds, primarily in
response to the South Asian tsunami, as well as Hurricanes Charley, Ivan and
Jeanne, which affected the Southeast US and Puerto Rico in the fall of 2004.
Through a successful internal campaign, Shell and Motiva employees
contributed more than $125,000 to the South Asian tsunami relief efforts
through the American Red Cross. Combined with the companies' donation of
$350,000, Shell and Motiva contributed more than $475,000 -- the largest
donation received by the American Red Cross from any Houston company for
tsunami relief efforts and one of the highest totals nationwide. With
hurricane-relief donations totaling $175,000, including $100,000 in gasoline
cards, Shell's and Motiva's 2004-05 disaster-relief contribution to the
American Red Cross totaled $650,000.
"Shell and Motiva employees are known for their willingness to help," said
John Hofmeister, Shell US Country Chair and President, Shell Oil Company. "In
times of need, our compassion and support are evident in many ways, not only
with donations of our time as community volunteers but in financial
contributions as well. Our response to the hurricane and tsunami relief
efforts through the American Red Cross was another example of this generous
spirit in action."
"The American Red Cross was able to deliver lifesaving aid to the victims
of the Florida hurricanes and the tsunami in southern Asia because of generous
supporters like Shell Oil Company and Motiva Enterprises," said Skip Seitz,
Senior Vice President of Growth and Integrated Development for the American
Red Cross. "We are very grateful for the support of Shell and Motiva for
helping us help others in their greatest time of need."
Hofmeister and John Kiappes, Vice President Services for Motiva
Enterprises LLC, accepted the Circle of Humanitarians Award today in Houston
on behalf of Shell and Motiva employees from R. Bruce LaBoon, member, National
Board of Governors of the American Red Cross. Also in attendance were Davis
Henderson, Chief Executive Officer, Greater Houston Area Chapter of the
American Red Cross; Diana Collymore, Financial Development Director, Greater
Houston Area Chapter of the American Red Cross; and Bob Leipold, Senior Major
Gifts Officer, American Red Cross.

Shell Oil Company is an affiliate of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of

The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors --
across the street, across the country and across the world -- in emergencies.
Each year, in communities large and small, victims of some 70,000 disasters
turn to neighbors familiar and new -- the nearly 1 million volunteers and
35,000 employees of the Red Cross. Through almost 900 locally supported
chapters, more than 15 million people gain the skills they need to prepare for
and respond to emergencies in their homes, communities and world. Some
4 million people give blood -- the gift of life -- through the Red Cross,
making it the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United
States. The Red Cross helps thousands of U.S. service members separated from
their families by military duty stay connected. As part of the International
Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, a global network of 181 national
societies, the Red Cross helps restore hope and dignity to the world's most
vulnerable people. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross
spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is
not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to
do its work. Marsha J. Evans is the President and CEO of the American Red
Cross.
