DALLAS, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Dave Perkovich, formerly Blockbuster's
Vice President of Online Subscription Services, announced to today the launch
of MovieBandits.com -- a new site dedicated to trading new and used DVDs.
Having helped Blockbuster launch their online rental service, which competes
with companies like Netflix.com , Mr. Perkovich is intimately familiar with
the online DVD space. "Everyone knows about renting DVDs online and getting
them in the mail. But people still like to own their own copies. As a
result, there is an enormous amount of unwatched DVDs in people's homes. Now,
you can make use of those titles by trading with us for new titles."
With over 250,000 DVDs in their McKinney, Texas warehouse,
MovieBandits.com offers its customers' direct "business to consumer" trading.
This is in sharp contrast to "peer-based" trading services. Customers know
exactly what they will get when using MovieBandits.com . This also allows
DVDs to be screened, cleaned, and sometimes repaired before customers receive
them.
"It's a more traditional brick-and-mortar approach to a totally new 'e-
concept'," Mr. Perkovich explains. "We can control quality and provide
customers a truly excellent service. Customers like knowing who they are
dealing with. We're very excited about our approach."
MovieBandits.com has been in Beta testing since January, but Mr. Perkovich
reports trading has been brisk. "It's actually quite amazing how popular this
service has become with virtually no advertising. Word of mouth has been
awesome."
Currently, MovieBandits.com is privately funded. "For a small start-up
that has no external funding, I think we're already a success," said Mr.
Perkovich. MovieBandits.com has nearly 10,000 registered customers and
expects to reach an average of 5,000 trades per month by May 2006.
MovieBandits.com developed their own proprietary administration system to
track customer information, inventory, and orders. The system is web-based
and streamlines the entire order management process -- which ultimately
increases order fulfillment capacity and lowers labor costs.
