ST. LOUIS, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Mallinckrodt Inc. (NYSE: MKG)
continued its expansion into the global marketplace in 1998 by receiving more
than 200 regulatory clearances for its products in the United States and more
than 40 other countries. Some of the products were new to the practice of
medicine; others were newly introduced to the markets in which they were
cleared. Of the clearances, more than 40 came in the United States and
Canada, 51 in Europe, 50 in Mexico, and 71 in South and Central America and
the Pacific Rim countries.
Among the products cleared in the United States during the year were three
dosage strengths of Mallinckrodt's Methylin(TM), its brand of methylphenidate,
the chemical active in Ritalin. Methylin is prescribed for the treatment of
attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Other significant product
clearances included the 840(TM) Ventilator System, the next generation
top-of-the-line critical care ventilator for infant, pediatric and adult
patients; the Simplicity(TM) Spirometer that measures lung capacity and
performance; the KnightStar(TM) 335 respiratory support system for hospitals
and institutional settings; and the GoodKnight(TM) 418 home care system for
treating obstructive sleep apnea.

In addition to the United States, Mallinckrodt products were cleared in
Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech
Republic, El Salvador, Europe, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Japan,
Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Singapore, Taiwan and
Thailand during 1998.
