Polycom Launches VoicePlus - Breakthrough Multi-Network Voice, Video and Web Collaboration Solution

Polycom to Debut Unified Conferencing Infrastructure Solution for Enterprises
And Service Providers at FOSE Government Trade Show

    MILPITAS, Calif., March 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Polycom(R) Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), a worldwide leader in the convergence of
interactive voice, video and data communications, today introduced
VoicePlus(TM), the industry's first all-in-one multi-network, voice, video and
web conferencing multipoint conferencing system. This breakthrough
infrastructure solution enables enterprises and service providers to offer
total multimedia, multipoint collaboration capabilities, while enabling end
users to use virtually any type of endpoint or network in a single conference
by easily combining voice, video and web conferencing.
Polycom will demonstrate the new VoicePlus multipoint conferencing system
at the FOSE government trade show, March 19-21 at the Washington D.C.
Convention Center -- Booth #1450.
VoicePlus is built on Polycom's award-winning MGC platform and complements
Polycom's existing line of industry-leading rich media infrastructure
products. VoicePlus can be configured as a stand-alone voice multipoint
control unit (MCU) or expanded as a fully integrated MCU and gateway for
voice, video and data collaboration supporting multiple conference types
-- unattended, ad-hoc, reserved and operator-assisted. VoicePlus is also
tightly integrated with Polycom's WebOffice(TM) web conferencing software,
enabling users to launch ad-hoc voice or videoconferences while in a WebOffice
session.
"By creating a unified platform for voice conferencing, web collaboration
and video communications, Polycom is enabling users to easily collaborate in a
single conference using different types of endpoints and media," said
David Alexander, research analyst with Frost & Sullivan, a leading market
research firm. "We have seen a number of key trends emerging that point to
significant demand for an integrated conferencing environment, including an
increase in the requirement for reservationless services and a sharp rise in
the use of integrated data collaboration tools within conferences."
"VoicePlus will redefine conferencing and collaboration," said
Dave Gallagher, vice president of business development for network systems at
Polycom. "VoicePlus enables any-to-any communications that are virtually
endpoint independent, very high quality and simple to use. For network
administrators, VoicePlus is easy to deploy and manage, and effectively scales
from 46 ports to hundreds of ports, meeting the needs of both enterprises and
service providers. More than a voice conferencing bridge, VoicePlus delivers
new integrated capabilities that will help make combined voice, video and web
collaboration conference calls a feature of everyday business life."
VoicePlus creates a unique conferencing environment for end users by
supporting multiple types of endpoints and multiple network connections. For
example, a user will be able to initiate an ad-hoc, unattended conference
using a single phone number that would connect both audio and video endpoints,
regardless of their network connection (PSTN, IP, ISDN). The any-to-any
endpoint environment empowers users to easily combine conferencing features as
a call evolves, such as adding a voice conference to a web conferencing
session or adding videoconferencing to a voice conferencing session.
"VoicePlus allows users to sidestep the complexities associated with
connecting different types of endpoints over different network connections by
integrating all elements on a unified platform," said Alexander. "How a
participant connects into a multimedia conference is now irrelevant because
the VoicePlus conferencing bridge provides a seamless, transparent experience
for the users."
VoicePlus is integrated with the Polycom suite of management products,
providing web scheduling and control. VoicePlus also offers a feature-rich API
for integration with third-party applications, provides audible customer
alerts for conference operators and offers a wide range of security features.
Security offerings include PIN code conference protection, a conference lock
function, certified firewall gateway integration, call line identifier support
and operator-managed access, if desired, to meet and greet each user.

    Pricing and Availability
VoicePlus is available now through Polycom's extensive channel partner
network for a manufacturers' suggested resale price (MSRP) of US $71,300.
